    • Ramesh Delampady Two k.g lime and two k.g copper sulphate per 200liter barrel. But What we do is a little different. Four k.g. lime water with 200 liter water in one barrel and four k.g. copper sulphate in 200 liter water in another barrel. We mix 15 liters of both solution in another small barrel to prepare 30 liters bordeaux mixture.

    • Vishal Notada ur are diluting the mixture sir. if u mix it with 2 kg ofCao then u are redusin its power by nearlu 45%

    • Ramesh Delampady one kg lime with one kg copper sulphate with 100 liters of water is considered as one percent bordeaux mixture.Theoretically only 700 gms of lime is needed. But the acid test is that whether our mixture effectively controlled the kole roga or not.

    • Vishal Notada ‎2kg of cuso4 needs 1 kg of lime(80%cao) in 200ltrs .any more lime added will reduse the power of cuso4.the equation of CuSO4(5H2O)+Cao gets balanced if u do that.

    • Vishal Notada and delempady sir if ur bordeaux mixture s for areca then,it is as good as sprayin water.
      12 December 2011 at 18:18 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady There are several types of lime available in the market.I think you are referring to the industrial quality lime.I saw one quality which only 400gms is sufficient to one kg copper sulphate. But such lime wont available in all shops.
      12 December 2011 at 19:11 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady And the barrel is 220 liters capacity. We fill only about 200 liters in it.And the acid test is that we control koleroga with this mixture.
      12 December 2011 at 19:13 ·
    • Vishal Notada am refferin the lime which is universally available for farmers.
      12 December 2011 at 19:13 ·
    • Vishal Notada acid test will now avoid kole roga its Cu(OH)2 which is a fungicide
      12 December 2011 at 19:14 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady Vishal sir, from how many years you are preparing bordeux in this way?Is any other farmers too follow this?
      13 December 2011 at 10:32 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady industril quality lime or hydrated lime is ready to use lime.It is nothing but industrially purified lime.It can directly added to copper sulphate solution. No need to adding hot water or boiling.According to my knowledge,I may be wrong, calcium content in hydrated lime is 80 percent.I heard that one shopkeeper in Vittla sells it.
      13 December 2011 at 10:52 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady I saw a demonstration by the C.P.C.R.I.Vittal a year back with regard to bourdeux preparation. There they used hydrated lime and said that 400gms of hydrated lime with one kg copper sulphate in 100 liter of water makes one percent bordeux solution. They advised to use 500gms of hydrated lime.
      13 December 2011 at 10:58 ·  ·  1
    • Ramesh Delampady What happens if the quantity of lime is increased or decreased in boardeux? If the quantity is lesser than required the solution become acidic. This may result in nut dropping in arecanut. If the quantity of lime exceeds the limit the solution become alkaline [ph value raises above 7].But no big damage is there.Hence it is advisable to use a little more lime than absolutely necessary.[If we are not using a ph paper]
      13 December 2011 at 11:04 ·  ·  1
    • Ramesh Delampady Actually several farmers use more lime than suggested. Some even use two kg lime to one kg copper sulphate. It seems that the ratio is not so important. If it is important those farmers must have experienced a great loss in income.

    • Vishal Notada sir am tellin u cUso4 is not ur fungicide.if u increse the lime content then u are dilutin the fungicide. cuso4 when mixed with water and 80% lime u get Cu(Oh)2 this is ur fungicide.... so 2 kg of cuso4 needs only 1 kg of 80% lime in 200ltrs of water .... try this and if u get kole roga even if it rains continuosly for 60 days then i will pay for all ur losses!!!!
      17 December 2011 at 12:45 ·  ·  1
    • Vishal Notada we are addin the lime only to maintain slight acidity to precipitate cu(oh)2 not to make the fungicide acidic.....
      17 December 2011 at 12:46 ·  ·  1
    • Vishal Notada if u use 1 kg of lime more in ue mixture than it is eqvivalent of addin another 100ltrs of water to it.. My father is an Msc chemistry u can definitely count on him

    • Vishal Notada even i can assure a time gap of 50-55 days between sprays if u follow tis composition... irrespective of amount of rain fall
      17 December 2011 at 12:50 ·
    • Vishal Notada tis composition we are doin since 30 years and no kole roga since... ours is in very high rainfall belt ie near hornadu..

      17 December 2011 at 12:53 ·
    • Vishal Notada my composition is 200:2:1 sir (water:tuttu:sunna) not 100:1:1
      17 December 2011 at 12:55 ·  ·  2
    • Ramesh Delampady Vishal sir-both of us agree on one thing-500gms of 80%lime is sufficient for one kg copper sulphate. But the difference is what is 80% lime? What we use is "sutta chippi sunna" produced and marketed by mostly local people. Some firms even exists in remote villages like Guttigar and Thodikana. Decades back one of my brother used ph paper while preparing Bordeaux mixture. He said that 700gms of lime[the best lime available in the market] makes neutral solution with one kg copper sulphate. If I remember what is said by C.P.C.R.I.Vittal scientists ,they said that what we get in the market has 40% lime.
      18 December 2011 at 19:01 ·  ·  1
    • Vishal Notada lime bags marked 80% will definitely have it....
      19 December 2011 at 13:14 ·
    • Subbayya Bhat Varmudi ‎1kg Copper sulphate + required amount of Lime decided by Litmus test in 100 Ltr of water, make a colloidal solution. This is the correct method. Usually 800gm of Lime is required.
      19 December 2011 at 17:48 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady We don't have such bags in our local market which are marked with 80%lime.In fact percentage of contents were not written in any lime bag.
      19 December 2011 at 19:54 ·
    • Vishal Notada wat is it.... here apmc agents supply us 5kg bag of 80% lime ... we are applyin since many years..
      20 December 2011 at 19:23 ·  ·  1
    • Vishal Notada spray lime
      20 December 2011 at 19:23 ·
    • Ramesh Delampady that's ok.I think no one is interested in hydrated lime here. One of my friend told that The manager of local campco branch told that he was the first person to inquire about hydrated lime in Sullia taluk. We don't know any one shopkeeper who sells hydrated lime in Sullia Taluk.
